Rebecca
Doughty paints and draws, and is the author and illustrator of books
for children.
about Rebecca's paintings and drawings:
Rebecca
Doughty creates a complex and evocative world of psychologically charged
animal characters reminiscent of the creature companions of childhood.
At once comic and tragic, her deceptively simple imagery touches upon
our fondest and most painful memories, while exploring the various adventures,
challenges and predicaments of our shared human experience.
Rebecca's artwork has been exhibited
in many places since the mid-1980's, including the Boston Drawing Project,
DeCordova Museum, Rose Art Museum, Schoolhouse Gallery in Provincetown,
Mills Gallery at the Boston Center for the Arts, Allston Skirt Gallery
in Boston, The Drawing Center in NYC, and Courthouse Gallery in County
Mayo, Ireland. She has received awards from the Blanche E. Colman Foundation,
The Artists Foundation, an A.R.T. Fund Grant from the Berkshire Taconic
Foundation, and a "Best Show Award" from the International Association
of Art Critics, Boston. Rebecca has also received fellowships from The
Ballinglen Arts Foundation in Ireland, and the Ucross Foundation in
Wyoming. Her work is included in the collections of the DeCordova Museum,
Simmons College, Wellington Management, Fidelity Investments, The Ballinglen
Arts Foundation, and private collections in many countries.
